A page is defined as either 300 words or 1,000 non-space Chinese, Japanese, Thai, or Korean characters. "Inside Origin" means that the Source and Target languages are both within a single origin category (see above origin lists). "Outside Origin" means that the Source and Target languages are not within a single origin category (for example, Chinese and English are not within the same origin category). "To / From Euro I and II" means that the Source and Target languages are not within a single origin category but are within the European I and European II origin categories. New translators are subject to a mandatory 10% price discount. This mandatory price discount is removed after 25 pages are translated.
Why do I receive a 60% commission from LanguageScape.com? What do you do with the remaining 40%? Approximately 90% of LanguageScape revenue is reinvested into marketing and administrative services. These substantial expenditures on our part allow us to aggressively promote you to potential clients.
Am I guaranteed a certain level of income? You are not guaranteed a level of income. However, you are guaranteed that thousands of potential clients will read your qualifications. It is up to you to convince these clients that you are the right translator for the job. If your qualifications are not impressive or if you receive poor client ratings or if you are unable to build a repeat client base it is likely that you will not become a successful LanguageScape translator.
How do clients select translators? Clients select their own translator from a sorted directory organized by average client rating and number of pages translated. The greater average client rating and number of pages translated a translator achieves, the higher the translator is ranked which, in turn, increases that particular translator's transaction volume. To assist clients in making informed decisions concerning translator selection, LanguageScape displays each translator's average client rating, client rating distribution, reviews of past translation jobs, price discounts, number of pages translated, self-description, credentials, and credential confirmations.
How do I know if clients are reacting positively to my campaign? Translators have access to campaign statistics reports updated in real time, which allows them to understand how potential clients are reacting to their posted qualifications and provides advice if their campaigns are under performing relative to their competition and rank.
When am I paid? LanguageScape commission payments are sent once a month. You can access the current status of your payment through your Control Panel.
What is LanguageScape.com? LanguageScape.com is an online platform for document translation commerce. The system manages a geographically distributed group of consultants who, in response to client requests submitted through the website, quasi-independently perform translation services. All trade and communications between translators and clients are performed and regulated within the system. An administrative staff monitors each transaction and intervenes if translators violate their contractual obligations to their clients or if clients/translators encounter technical problems.
